Sorry that we feel the need to state the obvious assuming that you re using the right key keep working it until it turns the lock.

An improperly functioning latch may be the result of a poorly fitting door.
If your door key doesn t work right the first and most obvious step is to be sure you re using the right key.
If it won t lock open the door.

No it s all aligned the latch goes through the hole in the strike plate nicely once the auxiliary bolt is pressed.
You have a broken wire.
Cylinder will then pull out.
The lock and strike plate were installed new yesterday.
Shut the door and try to lock it.
If not proceed to the next method.
T s possible the door may not be aligned properly now so the latch is missing it s hole.
The lock mechanism may not work simply because the lock is dirty or dry and needs to be lubricated with graphite do not use any type of oil because this will gum up the works.
If thats the case it still might be possible to replace the mortise style lock that was originally built into the door.
Pry up on it until it comes loose and remove it.
This may be caused by the latch plates.
Firstly for a whitco mk ii tasman lock the lock needs to be in the locked position.

Tap the end of a chisel under the door stop on the striker side of the jamb.
